High resolution rivals the best primes*
Excellent contrast at high spatial frequencies means superb resolution even at F2.8. Two high-precision XA (extreme aspherical) elements, two ED (Extra-low dispersion) glass elements, two Super ED glass elements, and a floating focus mechanism control chromatic aberration, astigmatism, distortion, and coma at all zoom and aperture settings. Stunning G Master bokeh
Exquisite F2.8 bokeh extends throughout the zoom range thanks to advanced optical design and a new 11-blade aperture unit. Bokeh is enhanced by precise control of spherical aberration during design and for each lens during manufacture. Two XA elements with 0.01-micron precision suppress onion ring bokeh. Minimum focusing distance is 0.21 meters at 24 mm and 0.30 meters at 70 mm, with max. magnification of 0.32x.

The smallest and lightest* F2.8 24-70mm zoom in its class, this lens offers unprecedented flexibility and freedom. It weighs just 695 grams, 191 grams less than the previous model. Its length has been reduced by 16 mm, and overall volume has been reduced by approximately 18%. Impressive portability and mobility make it a good choice for professional or enthusiast still or movie use in a wide range of situation.

Fast, precise AF and excellent response
Four of Sony’s original XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism, and advanced lens control achieve high AF precision and approximately 2x better tracking performance while zooming than the previous model*. With a compatible body it can shoot at up to 30 frames per second**. The new aperture unit also contributes to high speed, enabling full AF tracking performance even when shooting with the aperture stopped down***.

Movie features refined for visual creators
The latest lens design technology reduces unwanted image shifts and angle of view variations for smooth, expressive movie imagery. XD Linear Motors enhance AF and tracking performance, enabling high frame rate recording for exquisite detail. Independent focus and aperture rings are provided, and Linear Response MF ensures direct, linear focus ring response when focusing manually.*Functional compatibility may vary depending on a camera used.
Excellent control and reliability in any environment
An updated dust and moisture resistant design* provides extra reliability for outdoor use in challenging conditions, and a fluorine coating keeps the front element clean. Convenient operation of circular polarizing and variable ND filters (optional) is provided by a special opening in the supplied lens hood. Two customizable focus hold buttons are provided for easy access and convenient control when shooting in any orientation.

Excellent close-up performance
Minimum focusing distance is 0.21 meters at 24 mm and 0.30 meters at 70 mm, with maximum magnification of 0.32x. Deep bokeh at F2.8 is great for close ups. Floating focus ensures ideal sharpness throughout the zoom range and at all focusing distances, while inner focus enables impressive close-up stills or movies where space is limited.
Fluorine front element coating
The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.

Prime equivalent Zoom lens
Amazing lens. You can consider this equivalent to multiple prime lenses within this zoom range. I sold my prime lenses and this is now my all purpose lens. If you have the budget go for it.

Lenses aren’t cheap and this is no exception. The range (24-70) is great and the image quality is incomparable. Works great on an FX30, no problems. However, the focus too touchy for manual work, and the AF|MF switch is in an awkward place that’s hard to get to. The two programmable function keys are superfluous, they get in the way and are totally unnecessary–lenses are not where the buttons should be.If you’re a shoot-AF-sometimes/shoot-MF-most-times, maybe this isn’t the lens for you; you have more choices for better lenses at lower prices. If you shoot AF most/all of the time and need the zoom range, maybe it is the lens for you.

Bin sehr glücklich mit dieser Linse… es ist mein neues Go-To-Objektiv für alles, was draußen stattfindet. Wird es Abends sehr dunkel so kommt natürlich auch ein so tolles Ding bei f2.8 an seine Schärfegrenzen, wenn man Bewegtes einfangen will.Der hohe Preis hat mich lange überlegen lassen, aber wenn man die Linse immer drauf hat, wird es sich irgendwann rentieren. Kein langes mitnehmen und herumschrauben von Prime Lenses mehr. Andere sagen, das günstigere Zooms ähnlich gut sind, da hab ich leider nicht viel Vergleichs-Erfahrung.Die verschiedenen Komponenten an der Linse sind sehr gut durchdacht. Nur das Nötigste, aber nicht weniger. Bei Zeiss Batis zum Beispiel brauche ich selbst meist kein Display auf der Linse, sowas fehlt hier dann auch. Dafür aber ist hier ein gut erreichbarer Manual-Fokus-Switch, und eine Umstellung des Zoom-Drehs von schwer zu flüssig. Dreht man es auf Tight, rutscht die Linse beim lockeren tragen nicht raus, und trotzdem lässt sich mal eben zwischendurch schnell ranzoomen; besser als ein kompletter Feststellknopf!Das Gewicht hier ist auch super. Trage sie den ganzen Tag am Gurt und kann keine Ermüdung oder Balance-Probleme feststellen. Ich hatte das Vorgängermodell GM1 nur kurz zum ausleihen, und es war doch einige Gramm schwerer.Fazit: Wenn Ihr den Preis verschmerzen könnt, kaufen, ansonsten vielleicht die Preisentwicklung abwarten oder nacht Gebrauchtlinse Ausschau halten! I did own the original Gmaster, not bad but not great and was more like a prototype. Now owning the Mark 2, this is what the original should have been. Lighter, sharper and better focus. A new standard for 24-70s. This will sure be used a lot for work, events and holidays.
