Simply superb optical quality at a price

Over the years the cost of the fast aperture zooms has increased. These generally cover the range 24-70 and 70-200 as the most sort after F2.8 lenses. The Z mount is new and as such expect to pay a premium for glass that will last years as you develop your skills and change your Z mount body. You do get what you pay for with this lens, the quality is simply superb, it is super sharp across the range, and even wide at 24mm. The additional control rings and single function button can all be customised in the camera, further enhancing the usability of the lens. The screen is useful as a quick reference, it also provides accurate focal length display which can be useful for exact shots. It is supplied with a locking, felt lined hood, along with a soft storage cloth bag. Both the hood and lens are Made in Japan, and I would suggest you protect the front element with the best filter you can buy, you can find the Nikon ones for a reasonable cost on Amazon, or look at the Hoya range. Not a lot else to say, its another Nikon classic lens, with superb optical quality, but you do pay a premium.

    Insanely good

In my experience, zooms just aren’t as sharp as primes. But this lens is the exception.I’m a pixel peeper, I love zooming in on Lightroom and seeing detail and precision. Because of that, I’ve always noticed that zooms, no matter how expensive, couldn’t compete with high-end primes. This lens is the exception. The detail, sharpness, color, micro-contrast are on a par with the very best primes. And all in the highly useful range of 24-70! It’s like 5 very high end primes all in one!I’ve used Canon and Sony too and while they’re great systems, their 24-70 2.8s just can’t compete with this. This is the best 24-70 2.8 in photography today. It’s expensive, but it’s a delight.

    Best Nikon Normal Zoom, Ever!

Best normal FL zoom lens that Nikon has ever made (FWIW, I’ve owned all of their “best” normal zooms over the past 50 years). I also own the f4 S version of this zoom and rented a f2.8 S for a week. Immediately afterwards, I purchased this one from Amazon. Many reviewers say that the image quality is indistinguishable between these two zooms, but the f2.8 S improvement was very obvious to me. I see much better sharpness all across an image, superb contrast, and better rendering of subtle color tones. This is true for all apertures. My f4 version has specific apertures for best IQ, but even at these “best” settings it cannot compete with this f2.8 S. YMMV, but I really believe that most users will see these improvements.Heavy and expensive? Yes, but not as heavy as most of Nikon’s past F-mount f2.8 normal zooms. I’m 74 with small hands, fit, and of average build and I carried it as my only lens for two weeks on a European walking vacation on a Z7ii with no issues. The resulting images were truly worth it, to me it is easily worth it’s price. Highly recommended.

    Excellent. It will surprise you.

I’ve used the 24-70 2.8 (non VR) with D700 and the Z6 ( with FTZ adapter). The Z mount version is a brilliant lens. It makes the whole Z system come alive. The AF is lightning fast. Image quality is better (although the F mount version ain’t a slouch). However, there’s a night and day difference when it comes to video. The F mount version has a loud AF motor. It makes the AFF mode practically useless. The Z mount lens has a near silent AF mechanism. I use the AFF during videos. The audio quality is more than acceptable for a bully in mic using this lens. The main problem would be the price. I cannot imagine it is an easy decision to pay so much for this. I have to admit this lens is a brilliantly engineered piece of technology. In short, a must buy to fully enjoy Z system.

    Impresionante

Un objetivo súper versátil con una nitidez espectacular, peso un poco alto, pero de muy buen material, con un estabilizador brutal.Recomiendo 100×100.

    Wow!!!

This is the best mid-range zoom I’ve ever used for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s ultra sharp at all focal lengths. Secondly, the function ring allows me to quickly change exposure or aperture during a shoot without fiddling with dials. Thirdly, it’s lighter and smaller than the F-Mount 24-70 by a decent margin. The only thing holding this lens back is it’s price, but really, it’s not hard to justify when you consider that you’re getting prime-lens quality throughout the focal length.
